Adopt a Stream Program
In 2025, Dunwoody residents can volunteer to Adopt a Stream in their backyard or choose from selected locations. Volunteers will help monitor the water quality at their stream site, becoming an expert in one or more of these areas: chemical monitoring, macroinvertebrate monitoring, or bacterial monitoring. This will improve water quality in Dunwoody and increase community engagement. Volunteers of all ages are accepted. This program is a great way to engage the whole family, learning about science and having fun while keeping the city safe. To register to adopt a stream, go to dunwoodyga.gov/adoptastream.
Third Year of Trees Atlanta Front Year Tree Program
For the third year in a row, the City of Dunwoody is partnering with Trees Atlanta to plant a whopping 80 shade trees in front yards across Dunwoody. Trees Atlanta is a nonprofit organization that is dedicated to replenishing metro Atlanta's urban forest. Any homeowner in Dunwoody with yard space within 35 feet to a right-of-way is eligible to receive up to two front year trees planted for free. This program will provide shade and beauty to private property and public space. If your yard is within 35 feet of a right-of-way and you are interested in applying for this program, go to the City of Dunwoody's website to learn more and submit your application.
Dunwoody Nature Center

The Dunwoody Nature Center is expanding and redesigning its boardwalk to provide ADA access to the DNC playgrounds. This new boardwalk will be eight feet wide and include outdoor classrooms to aid in studying Dunwoody’s aquatic resources, seating and observation decks. These improvements will provide for a more accessible experience for all, with more opportunities to safely explore nature in Dunwoody.
Stream and Wetlands Improvements
The City of Dunwoody will begin construction at the DNC to restore streams and wetlands wildlife ecosystems. Aligning with the 2016 Master Plan for the Dunwoody Nature Center, this project will ultimately increase wildlife habitats and improve water quality. To complete this, they will stabilize the banks of Wildcat Creek, install a vane to channel water towards the center of the stream, remove invasive plant species and plant native species to restore wetland habitats.
Public Works
City of Dunwoody
The Georgetown Gateway
In 2025, Dunwoody will be more connected and accessible than ever. Construction has finished on the Georgetown Gateway after installing 54 new storm drains, 3,900 feet of stormwater pipe, moving and replacing 2,650 feet of gas supply line, relocating 22 utility poles, upgrading three traffic signals, and paving more than 450 truckloads of asphalt. This project extended the Dunwoody Trailway in both directions along Chamblee-Dunwoody Road from Georgetown Park, allowing for a more welcoming environment for pedestrians and bicyclists. The new Gateway features wider sidewalks with trees lining the road and pedestrian lights. This gateway improves the walkability of Dunwoody though one of its primary entrances and adds to the beauty of the city. Next year, enjoy the Georgetown Gateway with a walk or cycle to your favorite spot in town!
2025 will bring updates to every aspect of Dunwoody. Updates include the expansion of entertainment districts like High Street, enhancing Dunwoody's dining scene through new restaurants with everything from innovative Steakhouse's like Steak and Grace to the Indian flavors of Desi District, improving the city's walkability through the Georgetown Gateway and Dunwoody Nature Center boardwalk and increasing Dunwoody's sustainability efforts. Next year, Dunwoody will be better than ever and we can't wait for you to explore what all 2025 has in store.
